Cleanings
The American Dental Association
recommends routine cleaning (prophylaxis) every six months. Most people assume that their biannual trip to the dentist is to have a cleaning completed. In reality, much more is completed than just cleaning the teeth.
Periodontal (gum and bone) health assessment and oral cancer screening, as well as head and neck examination, are very important parts of dental cleaning appointments. With 60-70% of the population afflicted by gum disease and oral cancer being the sixth most deadly cancer, the value of a dental cleaning appointment goes far beyond cleaning the teeth.
